The Interview
Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?
Seth Carlson : My name is Seth Carlson, Career Coach at Acquired Salary, and I have spent much of my career working in the Pharmaceutical, Medical Device and Clinical Trials Industry. At Acquired Salary I work as a career coach and business consultant leveraging those experiences. I focus on helping STEM people clarify their career development goals and fill any career development and business knowledge gaps to improve their career outlook in a few weeks.
What are the essential tools and technologies you rely on to manage your business effectively??
Seth Carlson : The essential tools and technologies I rely on to manage my business effectively are Google Suite, Zapier, Calendly, Paypal. As time goes on I am increasingly using AI in specific applications to optimize the business.
Are there any unconventional or creative approaches you’ve implemented that significantly contributed to the growth and success of your business??
Seth Carlson : I think the most creative approach I have implemented that has significantly contributed to the growth and success of my business is word of mouth. Word of mouth is a compounding growth mechanism. The best way to secure word of mouth is to go above and beyond and provide exceptional service to the point where people share positive experiences without you asking.
How do you address the learning curve and potential resistance from your team when implementing new tools or technologies? ?
Seth Carlson : The best way to address the learning curve for implementing new tools is by creating a comprehensive operating procedure on how to use the tool. The best way to address potential resistances to implementing new tools is through active listening. This helps you identify the true obstacle to implementation so it can be addressed. It is also important to emphasize the important of the tools every chance you get. This helps ensure people understand how the tool fits into the big picture of providing quality service.
