Today, we had the opportunity to interview Ryan Stewman who is a Founder and CEO at Hardcore Closer.
Interviewee Name: Ryan Stewman
Company: Hardcore Closer
Ryan Stewman’s favourite quote: I read this quote the other day that said something to the tune of:
“How you see yourself is different from how other people see you. There are multiple versions of you living in different people’s heads.”
Basically no one sees you how you see yourself. You know everything about you. Good and bad. Those around you only know the you that you tell them about. We judge ourselves way harder than people judge us.
Ryan Stewman, also known as Hardcore Closer, has been through it all – adopted, homeless, drug-addicted, and even imprisoned multiple times. Despite his struggles, he has managed to turn his life around and build a successful career as a business coach and motivational speaker. In this interview, Ryan shares his insights and experiences on starting and growing a business, including the importance of core values, personal investment, and hiring the right people.
The Interview
Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?
Ryan Stewman : I’ve been adopted, homeless, on drugs, in prison, abused, in prison again, and divorced a few times. I’ve made my fair share of mistakes and been punished severely for them.
Because of my experiences, I’m able to share with you, from a first-hand perspective, how I’ve gone from rock bottom to the top of the world.
In your opinion, what makes your company stand out? Any examples?
Ryan Stewman : At our company, integrity is everything. We always go above and beyond for our clients, making sure that they are getting the best possible experience. We take an extreme ownership mentality, which means that we are always looking for ways to improve. Our clients know that they can rely on us to deliver high value, and that is what makes us stand out from the competition.
What are the TOP 5 mistakes people make when starting a new business? Please share advice/examples for all of them.
Ryan Stewman : Assuming all friends and family will do business with you is a mistake many first-time entrepreneurs make. In reality, they are the very last people that will do business with you. The next mistake I see a lot of new business owners making is not establishing core values and a mission up front as it’s almost impossible to build a successful and sustainable business without them. Believing that you can’t start your business until you have funding is also a common misconception and a myth that is passed around the proverbial campfire way to often online. The reality is, with the right planning and execution, you can start your business on a shoestring budget and still be successful. Most business owners also refuse to invest in themselves, which boggles my mind since your business will only grow as big as the experience that you have. Without personal growth and investment even the most successful start up will fail. Finally, and probably the biggest mistake so many Entrepreneurs make is not hiring soon enough, or worse, trying to do everything themselves. Once you start a business the faster you can move from working in your business to working on your business the better. That is why hiring as soon as you possibly can is so important to the longevity and success of your business.
