Why PawFurvia focuses on dog walks and travel gear

Ziqi Geng, founder of PawFurvia, runs a US-focused online store for dog walking and travel gear, including harnesses, hands-free leashes, car travel accessories and apparel. The takeaway

For an ecommerce store, trust is built through the details around the product: clear sizing, accurate images, shipping expectations and useful guidance. PawFurvia’s experience also shows the value of proving one customer use case before expanding.

01

What’s the short story of how your business started, and what makes it genuinely different from the other options your customers have?

I started PawFurvia because I kept seeing dog owners struggle with walking and travel gear that looked fine in photos but failed in daily use — poor fit, unclear sizing, and kits that weren’t built for real walks, runs, or car trips. PawFurvia is an online store focused on practical dog walking and travel gear: harnesses, hands-free leashes, car travel accessories, and apparel. What makes us different is that we design the shopping experience around everyday use cases — daily walks, hands-free running, car travel — with clear product guidance, size charts, and transparent US shipping, instead of treating pets as a fashion-only category.

02

How did you win your first customers, and where does most of your new business come from today?

Our first customers came from the online store itself: people searching for specific walking or travel needs and landing on product pages and how-to guides. Early traction came from answering concrete questions — harness fit, hands-free leash use, travel with dogs — rather than broad brand ads. Today most new business still comes from organic search and on-site discovery across harnesses, leashes, and travel gear, supported by content that helps owners choose the right setup before they buy.

03

What’s one decision that changed the direction of your business, and one mistake that taught you the most?

One decision that changed our direction was narrowing the brand around dog walking and travel gear instead of spreading across every pet niche. That focus made product pages, content, and shipping promises clearer. The mistake that taught me the most was underestimating how much sizing, photo quality, and post-purchase clarity matter for apparel and gear online. When those are weak, returns and trust suffer even if the product itself is fine — so we now treat size charts, real product images, shipping expectations, and order tracking as part of the product.

04

What has changed in your industry or in what your customers expect over the last couple of years, and how have you adapted?

Over the last couple of years, pet owners have become more value-conscious and more integrated into everyday life with their dogs — more walks, more travel, more expectation that gear just works. They also expect clear policies, tracking, and honest product information before they buy. We’ve adapted by tightening our focus on functional walking and travel products, publishing clearer shipping and returns information for US customers, improving order tracking feedback, and building content around real use cases instead of vague lifestyle claims.

05

If you were advising someone starting out in your industry today, what would you tell them to do first, and what would you tell them to ignore?

I’d tell someone starting today to pick one clear job for the customer — for example daily walks or travel with dogs — and make the product pages, sizing, and shipping promise excellent for that job before expanding. I’d tell them to ignore vanity tactics that look like growth but don’t create trust: thin content farms, paid low-quality links, and launching dozens of SKUs before you’ve proven fit and fulfillment on a smaller set.
