The Interview

Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?

Matt Miller : Prior to founding Embroker, Matt was a Principal at the private equity firm Hellman & Friedman, where he led investments in insurance and software companies. He is recognized as a key thought leader on insurance technology and innovation and has been interviewed on the subject by The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, CNBC, and others.

In your opinion, what makes your company stand out? Any examples?

Matt Miller : Our company simplifies the process of obtaining insurance. Embroker is a digitally-native insurance provider that was developed from the ground up with cutting-edge technology to eliminate inefficiencies that drive up costs and result in unpleasant client interactions.

What are the TOP 5 mistakes people make when starting a new business? Please share advice/examples for all of them.

Matt Miller : Social media marketing has become all the rage but it also can be a distraction, which leads to one of the most common marketing mistakes of ignoring your website. Though social media is important, its fluidity and constraints do not allow you to showcase all the attributes of your business.

Though social media is becoming ever more sophisticated, you should always utilize it to drive people to your website where you can really demonstrate what you are all about. Remember, social media platforms are important, but you don’t own them as you do your website. Therefore, always making sure that your website is at the center of your strategy is critical if you want to get the most out of your marketing efforts.
