The Interview

Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?

Margo Perkins : I have a background in working with professional sports teams and major retailers. I started my business, Margo Paige, after being turned away from college football for not carrying a clear handbag. When I looked for a clear bag online, it seemed to me that all clear handbags fit into two categories. They appeared to be inexpensive and cheaply made, so I was concerned about them breaking or being priced over $200, whichI felt was too much. I knew there had to be a cute handbag that met regulations, was affordable and cute. I launched a few months before the pandemic hit. During the pandemic, I pivoted the business to become more sustainable. I believe that is the future of fashion and wanted to move my company in a positive direction. We relaunched July 2022 with a new model that is completely sustainable. Our clear handbags are made of recycled materials and practices. We also have launched athleisure apparel that is light, sweat wicking and can go with anything you have in your closet. We are elevating eco-friendly apparel and clear handbags for stylish active living.

In what ways has your company worked to reduce its environmental impact, and what results have you seen from these efforts?

Margo Perkins : We’ve worked on creating a circular business model. We take recycled materials, create sustainable designs that are multi-functional, and at the end of life of the product, we take the product(s) back and partner with a company who properly recycles to turn them into something new. We see people wanting to support businesses who implement circular models and a positive impact of where they are spending.

What challenges have you faced in implementing sustainable practices, and how have you overcome them?

Margo Perkins : Finding the right partners who also have sustainable practices in place has been challenging. We were able to find a partner here locally that was able to connect us to the right people who value certifications, fair wage and fair working environments. For us, a large part of what sustainability is, is how we treat others. We’ve learned to ask questions, network and extensive research will help overcome obstacles.
