What are the TOP 5 mistakes people make when starting a new business? Please share advice/examples for all of them.
Adit Jain : Firstly, sell first, build later. If you have an idea, create a prototype or a mock-up design and go to at least five customers before you market it. This will give you a preliminary understanding of the demand your product has in the market. Often new entrepreneurs jump into spending huge sums towards developing their product before understanding the product market fit or the demand for their product.
Secondly, learn to hear the word “no” when selling your product. Living in the fear of “What if someone says no?” is something you need to overcome early on.
Thirdly, learn to trust your people as well as be quick in making decisions regarding them. Though it is an essential aspect of your overall business, learn to listen to your intuition in this regard. If they are good and competent, hire them. You should understand that people are amazing if given the right opportunities. They will scale themselves up, so learn to trust your people – most of them are innately wired to take the pressure and do what is expected of them. Have faith in them, support them, and guide them in the right direction and you will see that they will be ready to go above and beyond.
