AI MedConsult automates patient Q&A for plastic surgery centers
Benjamin Stover is Chief Commercial Officer at AI Med Consult, a company that helps plastic surgery centers, cosmetic surgery centers and cosmetic spas use AI to answer common patient questions around the clock. The story is worth reading because the company emphasizes using AI for scalable research and round-the-clock engagement while keeping human clinicians in charge of interpretation to avoid extra staffing costs and operational headaches.
Use AI to automate repetitive research and 24/7 patient engagement, but keep humans responsible for interpreting results and clinical judgement. Starting to use AI now builds the routines and competitive advantage that will be hard for late adopters to match.
What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?
Founded in 2023 and officially launched in 2025, AI MedConsult was created to help plastic surgery centers, cosmetic surgery centers, and cosmetic spas access cutting-edge AI technology to resolve a common business problem. Potential clients are looking for answers to cosmetic procedures online and around the clock. Engaging these patients with existing solutions like ChatBots or added staff typically lacks a personal touch, clinical subject matter expertise, scalability, and can increase operational headaches and monthly expenses by thousands of dollars per rooftop.
Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?
Most of our new business currently comes from conferences and customer referrals. Looking ahead, we’d like to generate more business through our online presence.
We understand that the online AI marketplace can be very noisy, so we’re working to build a stronger digital presence that helps us cut through that noise and reach potential customers through an omni-channel approach.
What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?
One thing I’ve handed over to AI is research aggregation. I like using AI to build lists of resources, sources, and information that I can then research and inspect on my own. It’s a useful tool for gathering and organizing data efficiently.
Where I still rely heavily on the human approach is interpreting that research. I’ll consider AI’s interpretation, but I don’t automatically accept it. I still go back to the original sources and data, fact-check the information, and interpret it through my own lens.
I’ve spent most of my career learning how to interpret certain types of information and apply that knowledge effectively in a business setting. AI doesn’t necessarily use the same mental models or decision-making tools that I prioritize. So, while AI is a valuable reference point, I don’t rely entirely on its interpretation of data or research. I see it primarily as a data aggregator that helps me identify what I should investigate further.
Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?
I do think more and more customers are researching what we offer ahead of time. As a result, when we go into a demo, they’re not coming in completely blind. They often already have a pretty good understanding of the what and the why, which allows us to get more quickly into the how.
If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?
My advice would be to start using AI now and get the repetitions in. The businesses and professionals who learn how to leverage AI effectively today are going to develop a competitive advantage that will be difficult for those who haven’t adopted it to overcome. I always come back to the same analogy "ride the wave rather than let the wave sweep you."
