Hema Dey on getting ChatGPT to recommend your business

Hema Dey is Founder & CEO of Iffel International Inc., a consultancy that finds the real profit center in small and mid-sized businesses and uses AI to amplify it into compounding revenue. She built that approach across law, healthcare, manufacturing and professional services, and now focuses on schema, authority signals and unique client stories so AI assistants surface her clients.

The takeaway

Fix your schema and build an authority stack of third-party citations, press, and content only you can create – those verifiable signals are what make AI assistants recommend your business. Ignore the tool-of-the-week and avoid handing over moments that require human presence; use AI to produce first drafts and speed, not to replace relationship building.

01

What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?

I am Hema Dey. Forbes Top 5 AI Leader, founder and CEO of Iffel International and author of the number one Amazon bestselling book The AI Translator.

I started Iffel International in 2006 because I kept watching businesses lose money not because their service was bad but because nobody could see what made them profitable.

That gap is where revenue disappears. And closing it is what I do.

Here is the best way I can explain what makes us different.

I tell the story of Dr. Arti Amin in my book. She is a podiatrist who came to us wanting to market surgery. It sounded impressive. It felt like the right thing to lead with.

But surgery was not making her money.

Ingrown toenail treatment was.

High volume. High demand. Exactly what her patients needed and were already looking for.

The moment we stopped marketing what she was proud of and started marketing what her patients actually wanted and would pay for her business transformed.

That is the Iffel model.

We find your real profit center. We build the message around it. And then we use AI to amplify it so it reaches the right buyer at exactly the right moment with enough authority that they choose you over everyone else.

Most small and mid sized businesses are sitting on a cash cow they are not marketing.

We find it. We position it. And we turn it into compounding revenue using AI.

That is what I have been doing for twenty years across law, healthcare, manufacturing, and professional services.

And it is what sets us apart from every other AI consultant in the room.

02

Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?

Honestly most of our new business still comes from referrals and word of mouth. That is the reality of building a firm for twenty years. The relationships compound. A client in healthcare refers a colleague in law. A speaker at an event becomes a client six months later. A book signing turns into a corporate workshop inquiry the following week.

And I love that. There is nothing more powerful than someone who has experienced what we do telling someone else about it. That trust transfers instantly and the conversation starts at a completely different level.

But here is where I want it to come from.

AI search.

Right now when a business owner asks ChatGPT or Perplexity who can help them build an AI marketing strategy or who the best Fractional CMO is for a professional services firm in California — I want Iffel International to be the answer that comes back.

That is exactly what my book The AI Translator is about. The 4 Vs Framework — Visibility, Validity, Veracity, and Values — the four signals that determine whether AI recommends your business or buries it.

And the honest truth is that we are actively building that right now. The schema. The GEO strategy. The thought leadership content. The authority signals that tell AI search engines that Iffel International is the credible, verified, trustworthy answer to that question.

We are practicing what we preach.

Because if I cannot get AI to recommend my own firm I have no business telling my clients I can do it for theirs.

03

What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?

One thing I have completely handed over to AI is the first draft of everything.

Research. Content frameworks. Schema markup. Email sequences. Workshop outlines. Social media content. The first pass on all of it now goes through AI before a human ever touches it. And what used to take my team days takes hours. What used to take hours takes minutes.

But here is the important word in that sentence.

First draft.

AI gives me the raw material. My team and I give it the truth. The lived experience. The client story that only we know. The insight that only comes from being in the room when a CEO realized his entire marketing strategy was built around a service that was not making him any money.

AI cannot manufacture that.

So that is what we handed over and kept.

Now here is what we tried and went back to doing the human way.

Relationship building.

I experimented with using AI to personalize outreach at scale. Automated sequences. Smart follow ups. Intelligent timing based on behavior signals.

And technically it worked.

But something was missing.

The people on the other end could feel it.

Not always consciously. But the responses were different. The energy was different. The conversion was different.

Because relationship building is not a content problem. It is a trust problem. And trust is built through genuine human presence not through a perfectly timed automated sequence that sounds like me but is not me.

I talk about this in The AI Translator as the Team Human x Team AI model.

AI multiplies what humans do.

It does not replace the moments that require a human to actually show up.

Relationship building is one of those moments.

And I will never hand that one over.

04

Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?

Yes. And it is one of the most fascinating shifts I have watched happen in real time.

Two years ago a prospect would arrive knowing almost nothing about us. The first conversation was largely educational. Who are you. What do you do. Why should I trust you.

Today prospects arrive already knowing.

They have read my LinkedIn articles. They have watched my YouTube videos. They have found The AI Translator on Amazon. They have read the reviews. They have seen the press. And in some cases they have already applied parts of the 4 Vs Framework to their own business before they ever send me an email.

The first conversation has completely changed. We skip the introduction and go straight to strategy.

That is the power of building genuine AI visible authority over time. And it is exactly what the GEO2Sales methodology I created is designed to produce.

Now on the AI assistant question.

Yes. And honestly this is the part that makes my day.

Our clients are getting calls from people who found them through ChatGPT.

Not Google. Not a referral. Not a paid ad.

ChatGPT.

A buyer asked an AI assistant who to call. And the AI said our client’s name.

That is the moment everything we have been building toward becomes real. That is the moment a business owner who trusted us with their AI visibility strategy understands exactly why we were so committed to getting the schema right. Getting the content right. Getting the third party citations right. Getting every signal right that tells an AI engine this business is credible, verified, and trustworthy enough to recommend.

I have had prospects tell me directly that they asked ChatGPT who to speak to about AI marketing strategy in California and my name came back. I have had people arrive referencing things that were only in my book or in content indexed deep enough that a human would never have found it through a traditional Google search.

That tells me AI is reading. AI is cross referencing. And AI is making recommendations.

Which is exactly what I have been telling every client since 2022.

The businesses that built their AI visibility early are going to have a significant advantage over the ones who are just starting now. Not because the latecomers cannot catch up. But because authority compounds. Every piece of verified credible content. Every schema signal. Every third party citation. Every press mention. Every book review. They all stack.

And the stack we built before most people knew this was coming is now showing up in AI generated answers.

That is not luck.

That is the 4 Vs Framework working exactly the way The AI Translator said it would.

05

If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?

I would tell them to do three things and ignore everything else.

First. Get your schema right. Today. Not next quarter. Today.

Schema markup is the language AI speaks when it is trying to understand who you are, what you do, and whether you deserve to be recommended. A website without schema in 2026 is a billboard written in a language AI cannot read. It exists. But the buyers looking for exactly what you offer will never find you because AI looked for the structured signal and found nothing.

This is not a technical conversation. This is a revenue conversation. And every day you wait is another day your competitor who did this six months ago is getting the call that should have been yours.

Second. Build your authority stack now.

Press mentions. Third party citations. Speaking engagements. A book. A white paper. A podcast interview. A Trustpilot review. Every single piece of external validation that an AI engine can cross reference to confirm that what you say about yourself is independently supported by what the rest of the internet says about you.

AI does not take your word for it. It goes looking for proof. Give it proof.

Third. Create content that only you could create.

Not the content your competitor could write. Not the content ChatGPT could write without you. The content that comes from being in the room when a client had the breakthrough. The story that only exists because you lived it. The insight that only comes from thirty years of doing the work.

In The AI Translator I call this Veracity. It is the third V in the 4 Vs Framework. And it is the signal that separates businesses AI recommends from businesses AI ignores.

Now here is what I would tell them to ignore.

Ignore the tool of the week.

Every week there is a new AI tool that is going to change everything. And every week consultants who have not done the real work are building entire practices around showing you how to use it.

Tools are not the strategy. Tools serve the strategy.

If you do not know your profit center, if you cannot articulate your value clearly, if your digital footprint cannot be verified by an AI engine doing a cross reference check at two in the morning — no tool is going to fix that.

Ignore the noise around AI replacing your team.

The businesses that are winning right now are not the ones who replaced their people with AI. They are the ones who gave their people AI and watched them do in an hour what used to take a week.

That is Team Human multiplied by Team AI.

And ignore anyone who tells you AI visibility is something you can build in thirty days.

Authority compounds. It does not appear overnight. The businesses appearing in AI generated answers right now started building their signals before most people knew this shift was coming.

Start today.

Because twelve months from now the people who started today are going to be the ones getting the calls from ChatGPT.

And the ones who waited are going to be asking why.

And if all of this feels like too much to wrap your head around right now — that is exactly why I wrote The AI Translator.

It is on Amazon worldwide. Plain language. No jargon. Everything you need to understand what is happening and what to do about it — in one book.
