The Interview
Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?
Warner Quiroga : My name is Warner Quiroga, a Real Estate Investor that buys houses for cash to fix and flip, while some of my properties I keep as rentals. Our company is Prestige Home Buyers, located in Long Island, NY and our team consists of several virtual assistants from different parts of the world.
How do you ensure effective communication and collaboration among remote team members? Can you share any specific tools or practices that have been particularly effective for your organization?
Warner Quiroga : Since we are a small team, we use Zoom to quickly convey the tasks in detail and talk about the strategies we need for the specific tasks and we use Whatsapp group chat for questions that need an immediate response for our daily communication. We use Asana and Hubstaff for project management to set tasks and monitor progress.
Encourage participation and promote discussion. Communication among employees results in a better and faster turnaround, increasing productivity which will benefit the company in the long run. Furthermore, it encourages meeting minds and sharing ideas to reach a common goal.
Maintaining work-life balance can be challenging in a remote work environment. What strategies do you recommend for remote employees to create boundaries between work and personal life? How can organizations support their employees in achieving a healthy work-life balance?
Warner Quiroga : Individuals can maintain a healthy work-life balance while working remotely by following these tips:
Develop a morning routine and set a structured work schedule to guide you through the day. This helps create a clear separation between work and personal life.
Establish clear boundaries between work and personal time, and communicate these boundaries to colleagues and family members. This ensures that everyone respects each other’s work and personal time.
Take regular breaks and exercise daily to improve concentration, memory, and creativity. Engaging in physical activities, even for as little as 15 minutes a day, can positively impact your well-being.
Create a dedicated workspace at home, separate from areas where you relax or spend time with family. This physical separation helps you mentally distinguish between work and personal time.
Disconnect from work after hours by turning off work notifications and engaging in relaxing activities. This helps signal the end of the workday and allows you to focus on personal time entirely.
Organizations can support their employees in achieving a healthy work-life balance by implementing various strategies such as:
Offering generous paid time off to allow employees to enjoy their personal life and recharge
.
Allowing employees to work flexible schedules, such as setting office hours from 7 am to 7 pm and letting employees work eight hours within that range.
Encouraging company leadership to model work-life balance behaviors, setting the tone for the rest of the organization.
Providing employees with opportunities to identify and solve workplace problems, fostering a sense of ownership and satisfaction.
