One dedicated editor: how Editvideoio stopped churn

Muhammad Usman Qamar is Co Founder / CEO of Editvideoio, LLC. He started the company in 2019 after repeatedly losing editors mid-project and built a service where each client gets one dedicated editor who learns their brand and stays with them. The business uses AI to transcribe and proofread footage quickly but retains human oversight for final quality control.

The takeaway

Use AI to automate reliable, repeatable tasks like transcription and proofreading, but keep a named human responsible for the client relationship and final quality control.

01

What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?

I started editvideo.io in 2019. Before that I was struggling to find good video editors at volume for my own work, kept getting inconsistent quality or people who disappeared mid-project. So I built the thing I actually needed. What’s different is we don’t rotate editors on you. You get one dedicated editor who learns your brand, your tone, your footage habits, and stays with you. Most competitors are either a marketplace where you’re rolling dice on who picks up your job, or a big agency where you’re a ticket number. We’re neither.

02

Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?

Mostly SEO and Google Ads, both aimed at bottom of the funnel, people already close to deciding. We still run Facebook ads but only for top of funnel awareness at this point. Client referrals are a solid chunk too. Where I’d want it to come from more: referrals and press, since those people already trust us before the first call instead of us convincing them cold.

03

What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?

Handed over: proofreading. We built a tool that transcribes every video and flags spelling and grammar errors with timestamps in about five minutes, used to be a team lead scrubbing footage frame by frame. Where we didn’t fully hand it off: quality control overall. We’re still actively going back and forth improving our AI QC tool, it makes the process faster, but we kept a human checking on top of it because we’re not confident enough yet to remove that layer. Some things you don’t fully automate just because you can, you automate the part that’s reliable and keep a person on the part that isn’t yet.

04

Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?

Yes. We ask everyone on their onboarding call how they found us, and we’re starting to hear ChatGPT and Google AI show up in those answers. Still early, but it’s real and it’s growing.

05

If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?

Do this: put a real human name and face behind every client relationship, even the small ones. That’s the thing AI can’t fake yet and it’s the thing clients remember. Ignore this: chasing every new AI editing tool that launches. Most of them solve a problem you don’t have yet, and switching tools costs you more time than it saves.
