Create once, fit everywhere: how PlatformFit preserves artwork across platforms

Sherri Thompson is founder & product developer of PlatformFit, a tool that resizes and adapts a single piece of creative for multiple platforms while preserving the original composition. She built the product using AI-assisted development despite not being a traditional software developer, showing how AI can unlock execution for creators without engineering resources.

The takeaway

Use AI to solve a concrete, time-consuming problem: it can handle roughly 80-90% of technical execution quickly, but keep human judgement for the final polish and for the business work of building awareness and customers.

01

What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?

PlatformFit™ grew out of a problem I kept running into in my own work. I would have one approved flyer or piece of artwork, but every platform wanted a different size. Resizing it often meant cropping out important information, distorting the original design, or essentially rebuilding the graphic over and over again.

I thought, “There has to be a better way.”

PlatformFit™ was built around a simple idea: Create Once. Fit Everywhere. Instead of treating resizing as just changing dimensions, PlatformFit™ is designed to help preserve the integrity of the original creative while adapting it for different platforms and formats.

What makes the story unusual is that I’m not a traditional software developer. I’m a photographer, talent agent/publicist, small business owner, and someone who has had ideas for technology for years without having the resources to build them. AI-assisted development changed that. It gave me access to execution.

02

Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?

Right now, much of PlatformFit™’s discovery comes through my own outreach, social media, demonstrations, networking, and conversations with people who immediately recognize the problem because they deal with it themselves.

Where I want more business to come from is organizations that produce a lot of visual communications but may not have large creative teams; small businesses, arts organizations, libraries, universities, Chambers of Commerce, nonprofits, venues, and communications departments.

I’m still in the stage of proving the product and building awareness, so I don’t want to pretend that AI magically created a customer pipeline for me. AI helped me build the product. Building the business still requires very human work.

03

What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?

I’ve handed a significant amount of early-stage technical execution to AI-assisted tools. I can describe what I want a feature to accomplish, work through the logic, test what comes back, identify problems, and iterate much faster than I could have before. That has fundamentally changed what I’m capable of building.

What I’ve gone back to doing the human way is the final polish. AI-generated images, video, or marketing assets can get very close, but there are times when the fastest path to a finished result is for me to manually re-edit the piece myself. That may mean correcting text, fixing a visual inconsistency, adjusting composition, restoring brand details, or making sure the final output actually matches what I envisioned.

AI can get me 80 or 90 percent of the way there very quickly, but that last bit often depends on a human eye.

The same applies to communication. AI can help me organize my thoughts, but when I’m communicating with an artist, customer, or business contact, I still need to understand the person on the other side.

AI can accelerate the work. I still have to own the outcome.

04

Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?

I’m beginning to see a change in how people discover and evaluate businesses, although I’m too early in PlatformFit™’s growth to claim that AI assistants are already a major customer acquisition channel for me.

What has changed significantly is how quickly people can educate themselves before ever contacting a business. Someone can encounter PlatformFit™, research the problem it solves, compare approaches and arrive at a conversation with much more context than they might have had a few years ago.

That makes having clear, accurate information about your product online increasingly important. I think we’re moving toward a world where businesses aren’t only communicating with potential customers; we’re also communicating with the AI systems those customers use to discover and understand us.

05

If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?

I would tell them to stop watching AI from the sidelines and find one real problem in their business to solve with it. Don’t start with, “How can I use AI?” Start with, “What keeps taking too much of my time, money or energy?” Then see whether AI can help.

I would also tell them not to confuse generating something with finishing something. Test the output. Question it. Correct it. Put your own expertise back into it. Your judgment is still part of the product.

And I would ignore the extremes: the idea that AI will solve everything and the idea that AI should be avoided because it will replace everyone.

AI didn’t suddenly give me ideas. I’ve had ideas my entire life. What AI changed was my access to execution.

At the same time, I’ve learned an equally important lesson:

AI can help you build the product. It can’t build the business for you.
