The AI Reality Check

Martin Gjini on using AI to build custom operations systems

Martin Gjini is CEO of OPSMAVIX LTD, which builds custom operations systems for owners of UK product businesses. This conversation looks at where AI helps the build process, why AI-generated UGC ads did not work for the company, and how clear pricing and ownership shape its offer.

The takeaway

Use AI where it speeds up research and first drafts, but keep trust-sensitive customer-facing work human when synthetic creative can undermine credibility. For operational change, start with the costliest bottleneck and retain ownership of the data and system.

01

What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?

Jorgo and I started OpsMavix after seeing the same thing again and again: growing businesses bending the way they work to fit software that was never built for them. One customer told me his system was making him pay more just to add more products, and he had 160,000 of them. We build the system around how the business already runs, for a fixed price agreed before we start. The client pays half to start and half only when it’s working, with no per-user or per-product fees, and they own every piece of it.

02

Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?

Today most of it comes from paid social ads on Facebook and Instagram, then a free call where we look at how the business actually runs. I wish more of it came from referrals and from owners finding us in search when they’re already stuck with their current system, because those buyers know exactly what’s broken.

03

What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?

We’ve handed a large part of the research and first-draft build work to AI, which is a big reason we can get a working system live in 30 days. We tried AI-generated ugc style ads for our ads and went straight back to real ugc videos. They looked fake, low quality and in a business that sells trust, fake is the one thing you can’t afford.

04

Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?

Buyers arrive far better informed than they used to. Most have already compared the big platforms, seen the prices, and know what they don’t want. We’ve made our site easy for AI assistants to read and quote, with clear prices, plain answers and nothing hidden behind a form.

05

If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?

Do: find the one part of your operation that costs you the most time or money and fix that first, and make sure you own your data and your system rather than renting it per seat. Ignore: anyone promising an AI agent that will run your business for you, and any software that needs a year of rollout before you see a result.
