How Natalia Bassova built a client-first mountain real estate business
Natalia Bassova is founder and CEO of Resort Real Estate Inc, providing residential real estate services in Summit County, Colorado. The conversation covers how local market knowledge and luxury real estate training shaped the business, and why building systems and strong client relationships matter.
Specializing in luxury real estate and investing in professional education helped Natalia Bassova better serve buyers and sellers. An early mistake of trying to do everything alone reinforced the value of focusing on strengths and using specialist resources.
What’s the short story of how your business started, and what makes it genuinely different from the other options your customers have?
I started my real estate career in 2005 after falling in love with the mountain community and lifestyle. Over the years, I built Resort Real Estate Inc. to provide personalized service for buyers and sellers of luxury, ski-in/ski-out, lakefront, golf-course, investment, and second-home properties throughout Summit County. What makes my business different is my combination of local market experience, specialized luxury real estate training, professional designations in negotiation and residential real estate, and a highly personal approach that puts my clients’ interests first and focuses on creating a smooth, enjoyable buying or selling experience.
How did you win your first customers, and where does most of your new business come from today?
My career grew from serving buyers and sellers in the Breckenridge and Summit County real estate market, where I built a reputation for personalized service, local market expertise, and a client-first approach. Over time, my focus on luxury properties, professional certifications, and strong client relationships helped establish my presence in the community and real estate industry.
What’s one decision that changed the direction of your business, and one mistake that taught you the most?
One decision that changed the direction of my business was investing in advanced professional education and specializing in luxury real estate. Earning designations such as CLHMS, CRS, and CNE helped me better serve high-end buyers and sellers and establish myself in the luxury market. One mistake that taught me the most was trying to do everything myself early on instead of leveraging specialized marketing, staging, and industry resources. That experience taught me the value of focusing on my strengths and building systems that create a better experience for my clients.
What has changed in your industry or in what your customers expect over the last couple of years, and how have you adapted?
Over the last few years, I’ve seen buyers and sellers become much more informed and expect a higher level of service, responsiveness, and market expertise from their real estate professional. In response, I’ve continued to invest in advanced education, luxury real estate training, negotiation skills, and marketing expertise so I can provide knowledgeable guidance and a personalized experience for every client. My goal has always been to make the buying or selling process as smooth, informed, and enjoyable as possible while helping clients make confident real estate decisions.
If you were advising someone starting out in your industry today, what would you tell them to do first, and what would you tell them to ignore?
If I were advising someone starting out in real estate today, I would tell them to focus first on learning their local market, building strong relationships, and putting their clients’ interests first. Real estate is a relationship-driven business, and long-term success comes from trust, responsiveness, market knowledge, and consistently delivering a great client experience. I would also encourage them to continue investing in education and professional development. What I would tell them to ignore is the idea that success happens overnight. Instead of chasing quick wins or comparing themselves to others, they should focus on serving clients well, building a solid reputation, and improving their skills every day.
