The Interview

Thank you so much for joining us today! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your backstory?

David Reid : I’m David Reid, the Sales Director at VEM Tooling, a dynamic and fast-growing mold manufacturer. At VEM Tooling, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the industry, delivering top-notch molds to clients worldwide. With a presence in over 5 countries, we have successfully expanded our operations and continue to strive for growth across borders.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of serving multiple businesses, including renowned giants in the automobile, steel, and production sectors. Collaborating with these industry leaders has provided me with invaluable insights and expertise, enabling me to understand the unique challenges and requirements of each client.

How do you ensure effective communication and collaboration among remote team members? Can you share any specific tools or practices that have been particularly effective for your organization?

David Reid : Our organization has implemented several tools and practices to foster seamless collaboration. One tool that has been particularly effective for us is a cloud-based project management platform, such as Asana or Trello. These platforms allow us to assign tasks, set deadlines, and track progress in real-time. A centralized system allows remote team members to easily collaborate, update project statuses, and stay aligned on goals.

In addition to project management tools, we rely heavily on video conferencing platforms like Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Video meetings enable face-to-face interactions, facilitating more transparent communication and building rapport among team members despite physical distance. We encourage regular video check-ins and team meetings to maintain connection and ensure everyone is on the same page.

Maintaining work-life balance can be challenging in a remote work environment. What strategies do you recommend for remote employees to create boundaries between work and personal life? How can organizations support their employees in achieving a healthy work-life balance?

David Reid : To address the challenge of work-life balance in a remote work environment, we advocate for setting clear boundaries. Remote employees should establish dedicated workspaces, separate from personal areas, to create a physical distinction between work and personal life. They should also establish structured work schedules and adhere to them as much as possible. Communicating these boundaries to colleagues and clients is essential to prevent the blurring of work and personal time.

Organizations can support their employees in achieving work-life balance by promoting a culture of respect for personal time. Encouraging employees to take regular breaks, disconnecting after work hours, and emphasizing the importance of self-care can contribute to a healthier work-life balance. Additionally, providing resources for mental well-being, such as access to counseling services or wellness programs, demonstrates an organization’s commitment to supporting employees’ holistic needs.
