In this edition of the Ecommerce Authority Playbooks series, we dive into how
Sabai Botanicals grows, retains customers, and prepares for the future of search in 2026 and beyond.

The biggest lever here is simple: earn trust first, then let that trust compound through community, support, and repeat communication. Sabai’s growth shows how a niche ecommerce brand can win by being visibly helpful, highly consistent, and close to its customers.

The interview

1. What’s the quick origin story of your brand, and what makes your product or positioning genuinely different from other options in your niche?

Niccolo Compau: Our origin story starts back in 2017, My brother Antonino wanted to be able to source high-quality and clean Kratom directly from the farms of Southeast Asia. As a firm believer of the product, he wanted to be able to share it with people that struggled in different ways that needed a natural tool to help them live their everyday lives. Antonino, in his early 20’s, took several trips down to the jungles of Indonesia to meet farmers and vet their farming and processing techniques. The relationships he built during those years still stand strong to this day, and we feel like that gives us a unique and special advantage in the industry. Supplying high-quality and clean products you can count on is our mission!

2. Since launch, what have been the 1-2 real turning points for your brand-specific decisions, pivots, or experiments that noticeably changed your growth or profitability-and what did you learn from them?

Niccolo Compau: Securing our farm direct products really gave us a big jump. Our customers frequently let us know about how they notice the quality compared to other brands.

In 2020 we were introduced to a kratom support group on facebook. We ended up becoming the most popular brand on the page in a few months. That really gave us a ton of exposure and allowed us to connect with thousands of people who really respect kratom and gave us a chance to be their preferred vendor.

3. Which 2-3 channels drive most of your revenue right now (for example SEO, paid social, email, marketplaces, influencers), and what have you learned about making those channels work in your category?

Niccolo Compau: Our Facebook page has been one of the biggest assets to us. That’s where our customers can see when we run sales, ask us questions & see our announcements. It’s been a great way to connect and share information regarding the brand. Staying engaged and answering questions and concerns really helps us maintain consistency.

Email marketing has been a really good tool as well. Similar to our Facebook page, we announce sales and information. It’s been an amazing way to share what we want with our customer base.

4. How are you thinking about search in 2026 – Google, AI assistants like ChatGPT, and other discovery platforms? What, if anything, have you changed in your content or site to stay visible as AI search grows?

Niccolo Compau: We work closely with Coalition Technologies to stay sharp and progressive when it comes to staying visible on search engines. Most of that is way above my understanding, so it’s been great having a team of people that really understand that world and can help guide us!

5. What do you do to turn first‑time buyers into repeat customers and advocates? Are there specific experiences, content, or community touches that work especially well for you?

Niccolo Compau: Great customer service and connecting with customers are essential. When people trust you and your products, they will talk about them in a positive light and other people tend to listen! A big discount code never hurts either!

6. If you had to write a short playbook for an ecommerce founder one stage behind you, what would you double down on over the next 12 months – and what would you stop doing entirely?

Niccolo Compau: I would surely double down on customer service and making sure people are happy with your products or services. I think showing people you truly care about their questions and concerns goes a long way. It’s the best way to get growth through referrals and have people trust your brand.

On the flip side, I would stop trying to do too much too fast. Great things develop with time and ideas, and workflow only grows stronger when you really focus on important steps in phases.
