Content-first CRM: how Jeff Tilley turns YouTube into leads

Jeff Tilley is Founder & CEO of Muncly, a CRM consultancy that implements systems tied to revenue and how a business actually sells. He built the company around his own operator experience, a blog and a YouTube channel, and stays involved after configuration rather than just handing the tool back to clients. He uses AI to speed formatting and repurposing of content while keeping the strategic thinking personal, and this year two new clients found him via ChatGPT and Gemini.

The takeaway

Produce expert content in your own voice and use AI only for repetitive production tasks like templates and repurposing; AI can’t replace domain expertise or decision-making. Also prepare for discovery via AI assistants – customers are already arriving that way.

01

What’s the quick origin story of your business, and what makes what you do genuinely different from the other options your customers are looking at?

Muncly is built around me. My expertise, my method for implementing CRM software, my name, my personality. That’s the whole differentiator. Most CRM consultants configure a tool and leave. I come from an entrepreneurial family that went bankrupt, I run my own business and my own YouTube channel, and I implement CRM the way an operator would, tied to revenue and how the business actually sells.

02

Where does most of your new business come from today, and where do you wish it came from?

Blogging and YouTube, and that’s exactly where I want it to come from. More traffic, more leads, built on content I actually made. The hard part is competing with Salesforce and HubSpot. They have infinite budgets and they’re eating every corner and niche of this space. That much noise makes it genuinely hard for the right clients to find someone like me.

03

What’s one thing you’ve actually handed over to AI in the last year, and one thing you tried it on and went back to doing the human way?

Nothing is handed over 100%. It’s still a mostly manual process. I built a set of internal tools that save a lot of time creating web pages, landing pages, and lead magnet PDFs, and repurposing content across formats. That’s the closest thing to a handover. But the content itself still comes from me: research, expertise, opinion. AI helps me write it down faster and fit it into a template. It doesn’t produce the thinking.

04

Have you noticed a change in how customers find you or what they already know before they reach out? Is anyone arriving through AI assistants like ChatGPT yet?

Yes. This year, two new customers found me solely through AI search, one through ChatGPT and one through Gemini. I always ask people in a first call where they came from. Two years ago that answer was always a search engine or a referral. Now it’s starting to be an AI assistant. That wasn’t even an option two years ago, and the shift happened fast.

05

If you were advising someone in your industry on all of this for the next 12 months, what would you tell them to actually do, and what would you tell them to ignore?

Write. Text blogging got written off for a while because everyone assumed AI had figured out writing, so why bother. But AI doesn’t generate content, it generates AI slop. Read past the first two sentences of most AI-written posts and there’s nothing there: no meaning, no value, just filler. Produce expert content in your own voice. You cannot go wrong with that. Ignore anything that promises you can skip the expertise and let AI do the thinking for you.
